The Detroit Lakes Youth Wrestling Association hosted the ninth Annual Northwest Old-Timers Tournament at Detroit Lakes High School on April 1.

All total, 40 wrestlers competed in 12 weight classes ranging from 123 to 293 pounds.

“I was a little late getting the notice out for this year’s tournament, and I am sure that kept our numbers low”, said tournament organizer Tom Trowbridge. “I promise to get the date set much earlier next year.”

Trowbridge is the only person to have wrestled in every tournament.

“I thought I would finally win the prize for the Oldest Wrestler this year, but I was denied that, too”, he said.

Pat Thomas claimed that title with an age of 47 years and 7 months – about one week older than Trowbridge.

The Team trophy went to a group of mostly local wrestlers calling themselves “Vicious and Delicious”.

The team members were Justin and Dominic Horne, Michael Griffin, Zach Baker, and Kyle Middendorf. They paced the field of three teams with 59 points.

The Detroit Lakes Youth Wrestling Association thanks all the wrestlers who came, and encourages everyone to plan for next year’s tournament.
