Perham Lakeside Golf Course’s Mallory Belka competed in the annual Minnesota Golf Association’s Women’s Amateur Championship on July 27-29 at the Stillwater Country Club.
The event was won by Detroit Lakes’ Kate Smith. She finished the two-day event with a 215, capturing the title by six strokes when she finished 1-under par.
Smith opened with a 70 and followed with rounds of 71 and 74 on her way to the title.
Smith earned an invitation to the 2020 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship next week at Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Md., after she moved to No. 127 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings. She was the 2017 Women's Amateur champion and last year's runner-up.
Detroit Lakes’ Shelby Busker finished in third place at six over par. She finished with a 222, shooting rounds of 75, 73 and 74.
Belka finished in a tie for 42nd place overall. She started the tournament with an 86 on the opening day. She followed with an 84 on day two and finished with an 86 on day three for a total of 256.
