Wayne Caughey and Jeff Tweeton battled it out on the golf course at the Resorters Tournament in Alexandria with Tweeton earning a narrow victory on his way to the Master's Championship. Those two were at the top of the standings at the Perham Lakeside's Senior Club Championships on Aug 6 in Perham. However, it was Caughey who ended up with the victory.
Caughey fired a 71 to win the Gross Division title, capturing the Senior Club Championship by four strokes. Tweeton finished second with a 75, while Dick Dornbusch and Dwight Olson each finished with a 78 for third place honors.
Ren Leng finished with a 64.9 to capture the net division championship. He edged out Phil Link for the title. Link finished second with a score of 66.3. Art Riepe came in third place with a 68.7.
Caughey was the first flight individual winner with a 71, while Olson was the gross winner with a 71.1.
Dornbusch won the second flight with a 78 for the gross division, while Dan Howell won the net with a score of 70.4.
Link captured the net win for the third flight with a 79, while Steve Hietala came in with a 68.9 for the gross division win. Gary Layman won the gross for the fourth flight with an 87, while Mike Dombeck came in with a 73 for the net win.
Lang captured the fifth flight with an 85 gross, while Steve Melgard came in with a 71.3 to win the net division for the fifth flight. Riepe captured the sixth flight with a 93 gross, while Bruce Schroer came in with a 72.9 for the net win.
The Perham Lakeside Men's Club Championship is Sunday, Aug. 30 with tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m. Championship and Presidential flights will play 27 holes, while all other flights will play 18 holes. Players must have an active handicap to win any net division. There will be gross and net winners in each flight. The overall net club champion will be determined using Oak and Maple net score. Participants must be a Perham Lakeside season pass holder.
