Green Wave earn narrow victory over Perham/NYM

The Perham/New York Mills girls tennis team went to the wire with East Grand Forks, but it was the Green Wave who earned the 5-2 road victory over the Yellowjackets on Sept. 1 at the Perham Tennis Courts.

The Yellowjackets trailed 3-2 with two remaining matches on the court, but the Green Wave were able to secure both matches with third set victories.

East Grand Forks captured three of the four singles matches and won two of the three doubles matches for the 5-2 victory.

East Grand Forks’ Maggie Dietrich defeated Kiera Radniecki in a match that went the distance. Dietrich dropped the first set 4-6, but rebounded to win the final two 6-2, 6-2.

Brynn Havis received a forfeit victory at No. 2 singles when she defeated Avery Beachy. Beachy suffered an injury in warmups and was unable to compete in the match.

The lone singles point for Perham/NYM came from No. 3 singles with Mallory Belka earning a 6-2, 6-2 victory over East Grand Forks’ Kendal Rand.

Lila Rothenberger earned a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Perham/NYM’s Katie Johnson at No. 4 singles.

Katelyn Farder and Kenady Burris went the distance against LaVonne Lindberg and Kendra Moris at No. 1 doubles. Farder and Lindberg dropped the first set 6-7 (10), but rallied to win the second 6-3 and took the third 10-3.

The Green Wave duo of Aleah Oshie and Kendra Emery knocked off Maggie Trites and Maya Radniecki in two close sets, 7-5, 7-5.

The lone doubles point for Perham/NYM came from Jaden Hackel and Jane Gudmundson when they defeated Thea Haaven-Farstad and Hana Jensen-Selnes in three sets, 6-7 (6), 6-0, 6-2.

The Yellowjackets drop their dual meet record to 1-2 overall. They return to action when they host Crookston on Sept. 3 at 4 p.m. at the Perham Tennis Courts.
