Perham places fifth at Jackie Mann Invitational

The Perham gymnastics team opened the season with the annual Jackie Mann Invitational at the Prairie Wind Middle School gymnasium on Dec. 2. It was an opportunity for the Yellowjackets to find out where they are at in the early season and where they hope to get to as the season wears on.

The defending state, section and Jackie Mann champion Detroit Lakes Lakers captured the title.

The Lakers finished first with 143.45, while Maple Grove was second with 142.1. Watertown-Mayer followed in third place with a 141, while Cambridge-Isanti came in fourth at 139.95. Perham rounded out the top five with a score of 136.2.

Cambridge-Isanti’s MollyAnn Harvey was the All-Around winner. She finished with a score of 37.050. Perham’s Jada Olsen finished with a 37.050 as well for second place. Maple Grove’s Nadia Abid came in third at 36.650. Perham’s Sydney Bahls came in 11th in the All-Around, finishing the day with a 33.550.

Olsen was at the top of the standings for three out of the four events. She captured the gold on the bars, was third on the vault and second on the floor. She had a slip on the beam, finishing in 17th place.

The Yellowjackets started out on vault, finishing with a 35.1. Olsen led the way for Perham with a third place finish. She finished with a 9.550. Bahls followed in 11th place, hitting a 9.100 on the vault. Jazzmin Branchaud ended with a and 8.20, while Lindsey Soule recorded an 8.25. Dena Fischer ended with an 8.100.

The Yellowjackets followed with a 33.4 on the bars. Olsen led the way with a 9.450 for Perham. Mackenzie Rohloff followed with an 8.40, while Fischer hit for an 8.250. Maddie Ruther ended with a 7.30, Bahls finished with a 7.10.

The beam continues to be a sore spot for the Yellowjackets. They finished with a 31.8. It’s been a tough event for the Yellowjackets in years past as well. Olsen finished with an 8.50, while Bahls ended with an 8.35. Fischer finished with a 7.50, while Kassidy Kovar recorded a 7.45. Soule ended with a 6.55 on the beam.Dena Fischer

The Yellowjackets closed strong with a 35.9 on floor, which was the team’s best event of the day. Olsen finished with a 9.550 to lead the Yellowjackets. Bahls followed with a 9.00, while Kovar hit for an 8.700. Rohloff finished with an 8.65 and Ruther recorded an 8.50 on the floor.

The Yellowjackets return to action on Monday, Dec. 11 at the Hauer Gymnasium at the Perham High School, beginning at 6 p.m.
