The Perham gymnastics team returned to the win column with a 139.70-120.30 victory over Park Rapids Area on Jan. 14 at the Hauer Gymnasium in Perham.

The Yellowjackets were led by Jada Olsen and Dena Fischer in the all-around competition. They also welcomed the return of Avery McAllister to the rotation.

Olsen finished with a 37.10 to capture all-around honors. Olsen finished first in three of the four events, with Fischer taking top honors in the other event. Fischer was second in the all-around with a 35.70. Park Rapids Area’s Halle Landstrom finished third in the all-around with a 33.25, while Perham’s Breahna Rodewald came in with a 31.35 for fourth place.

The Yellowjackets claimed four of the top five spots on the vault. Olsen was first with a 9.60, while Fischer was second with a 9.05. McAllister finished third when she hit for a 9.0. Rodewald came in fifth at 8.45, while Amber Teberg was seventh at 8.20.

Fischer earned the top spot on the bars with an 8.80. She was followed by Olsen, who recorded the same score. Kassidy Kovar was third with a 7.90, while Teberg was fifth at 7.50. Rodewald finished with a 6.95 for eighth place on the bars.

The Yellowjackets gained a big seperation on the beam from their opponents. The Yellowjackets claimed the top five spots on the beam. Olsen was first with a 9.20, while Fischer was second with a 9.10. McAllister recorded an 8.55, while Steph Bernstetter finished with an 8.25 and Rodewald came in with an 8.15 for fifth place.

Perham closed strong on the floor as well, securing five of the top six as they earned the home win. Olsen hit for a 9.5, while McAllister closed with a 9.15. Fischer was fourth with an 8.75, followed by Bernstetter in fifth with an 8.10. Rodewald closed with a 7.8 for sixth place.

The Yellowjackets are back home on Jan. 21 when they host Detroit Lakes at the Hauer Gymnasium. The Lakers edged out Perham by a very narrow 139.575-139.525 in their first dual meet of the season. Perham currently sits ahead of Detroit Lakes in the most recent rankings. Perham is sixth, while Detroit Lakes is seventh.
