Laker hockey picks up section win in Hallock

Detroit Lakes picked up a key Section 8A boys hockey victory on the road 2-1 over Kittson Central Saturday afternoon in Hallock.

The Lakers opened a 2-0 lead after two periods of play which was enough for goaltender Blake Itzen to keep the Bearcats at bay in the third.

Carson Reep got the lone first period goal tipping a Jace Kovash shot from the point. Jackson Carlblom assisted on the play.

Will Green tallied the game-winner at even strength in the second period on a Cam Gilbertson feed.

The Lakers held a 23-8 advantage in shots after two periods and finished the game outshooting Kittson 25-15.

DL stayed out of the penalty box until the third period and killed both Bearcat power play opportunities. Trent Peterson scored shorthanded in the third period to cut the DL lead in half.

The Lakers (8-10-1) have won two straight games heading into another section matchup at Red Lake Falls (3-13-1) Tuesday, Jan. 30.
