After suffering a first loss of the season in Warroad last weekend, the No. 13A Detroit Lakes boys hockey team got back in the win column in blowout fashion in a 7-1 Mid-State Conference victory over Wadena-Deer Creek Tuesday, Jan. 8 at Kent Freeman Arena.

Will Stowman had a six-point night scoring four goals, including the game-winner, and added a pair of assists.

The Lakers led by only a goal after Jackson Carlblom’s first period tally.

Stowman’s first two goals were the only scores of the second period giving DL a 3-0 lead after 34 minutes of play.

DL erupted for four in the third. Jackson Fields started the barrage with a heavy slapshot from the point. Roland Cormier drove to the net and left a juicy rebound for Trey Seebold for a 5-0 lead. Fields set up Stowman for the hat trick on the power play with a tight pass across the goal mouth leaving Stowman nothing but net to shoot at and he added his fourth of the night with a minute to play.

The Wolverine’s Finn Erholtz scored five-hole on Laker goalie Blake Itzen to avoid the shutout. Itzen had to battle through lapses in action in his end as the Laker offense dominated play. He made 17 saves to improve his record to 9-1-1.

DL put 49 shots on Wolverine netminder Josh Dykhoff and the Wolverines (5-7-1) dropped to 1-3 in conference play.

The Lakers (10-1-1, 4-0) face their second ranked team in three games at No. 4A East Grand Forks (11-3) in a battle for section positioning Saturday, Jan. 12. The Green Wave lost for only the third time Tuesday night 4-3 at No. 14AA Moorhead (9-6).
