Madison Olson scored a game-tying goal in the final minute of regulation with goalie Leah Honer pulled but Mankato East’s Sophie Steindl scored the overtime game winner to defeat Detroit Lakes 4-3 outdoors at North Dale Recreation Center in Saint Paul Saturday, Jan. 11.

The Lakers held a pair of one-goal leads in regulation.

McKenna Burhans scored her first of the season to give DL a 1-0 lead on assists by Madyson Melgard and Emma Coley.

McKenzie Keller tied the game three minutes later sending the teams to intermission tied at a goal each.

Ella Hess’ third goal of the year gave DL a 2-1 lead midway through the second period of Sara Freeman and Hadlee Justesen helpers.

The Cougars’ leading goal scorer Sydney Kanstrup tied the game at 14:45.

Emma Bastian gave Mankato East its first lead of the game early in the third leading to Olson’s tally to send the game to overtime.

Shots were 37-33 Detroit Lakes. Mankato was 0-4 on the power play, DL 0-3.

Keller and Kanstrup led all skaters with three point games each with a goal and two assists.

Emma Coley had two assists to lead DL.

The Cougars (7-10) have won four straight games after suffering a 10-game mid-season skid.

Detroit Lakes has dropped three straight to 3-13 overall heading into a road contest at Fargo North/South (11-1-1) Tuesday, Jan. 14.
