MOORHEAD — The Moorhead Spuds scored three goals in each period to secure a 9-1 victory over Detroit Lakes in Minnesota high school girls hockey Thursday night at Moorhead Sports Center.

Ava Kistner opened the scoring for Moorhead off assists from Brianna Krejci and Bria Holm. Hailey Hedlund found the back of the net later in the period before Kistner assisted Krecji for the Spuds' third goal before intermission.

The Spuds managed to double their advantage within the first 10 minutes of the second period. Holm, Kistner and Hedlund each struck to give Moorhead a 6-0 lead. Emma Coley broke the scoreboard for the Lakers (3-16) to cut the deficit to five before the third period.

Krecji, Olivia Dronen and Kenzie O'Connell each tallied a goal in the final frame for Moorhead. O'Connell's goal was her first varsity goal for the Spuds.

The Spuds moved to 7-13-1 overall and will square off with Bemidji at 4:30 p.m., Saturday Jan. 25 at Moorhead Sports Center.
