Alex Bren scored 64 seconds into overtime to give Detroit Lakes a must-have 2-1 Section 8A boys hockey victory at Kittson Central Saturday, Jan. 25.

Jackson Fields and Jordan Fields set up the game-winner as the Lakers recorded the only shots on goal in overtime.

Jordan Fields factored into both Detroit Lakes goals setting up Drew Schwan for the only score of the first period.

The Bearcats Calvin Hanson tied the game shorthanded in the second period.

The teams were scoreless in the third and neither team capitalized on 10 power plays in the game. DL was 0-6; Kittson Central was 0-4.

Wyatt Olsonawski stopped 28 DL shots on goal. Jack Hines earned the victory making 30 saves.

The victory was important for Detroit Lakes having lost to Kittson 5-2 at home in early December.

The two teams are going in different directions as the season winds down.

The Bearcats have lost five of the last six games to drop to 11-6. KC is 7-3 in section play.

The Lakers have won five straight games and lost only one in the past nine games to bump up to 10-8-2 overall and 5-3 against 8A teams.

The Lakers play another section game at Red Lake Falls Tuesday, Jan. 28 and a non-conference game at Wadena-Deer Creek Thursday, Jan. 30.
