After an up and down first half of the season the Detroit Lakes boys hockey team has found a groove winning for the sixth straight game and second in a row in overtime over a section opponent after defeating Red Lake Falls 3-2 on the road Tuesday, Jan. 28.
Jordan Fields scored his fourth goal of the season unassisted at 2:49 of overtime to give DL a big victory and a bump in the Section 8A standings.
DL currently sits in fifth place at 6-3 and 11-8-2 overall just one QRF point behind Kittson Central (7-3, 12-6). The two teams have split this year making for interesting discussions at the coaches meeting to decide playoff seeds later in the year.
Jackson Fields opened the scoring on a Jake Green assist for the lone goal of the first period.
Red Lake Falls Ty Kennett tied the game unassisted in the opening minute of the second.

Kennett potted his second of the game three minutes into the third period for a 2-2 tie and the teams skated scoreless the rest of the way to overtime.
DL goalie Jack Hines has taken over the starting job in net and made 26 saves for his second consecutive victory evening his record at 5-5-2 on the season.
Larson (8-2) lost for only the second time in 10 starts. He stopped 27 Lakers shots.
The win moved DL above Red Lake Falls (5-3, 13-6) in the section and is the only meeting between the teams during the regular season.
The Lakers go for a seventh straight win at Wadena-Deer Creek (6-14-1) Thursday, Jan. 30. DL blanked the Wolverines at home 5-0 three weeks ago.
