HOL wraps up 2016-17 basketball season

The Heart O'Lakes Conference put a bow on its 2016-17 basketball season with the third annual Heart O'Lakes Conference All-Star Game at the Prairie Wind Middle School gymnasium.

The event featured two high scoring games with the top players from the HOL conference participating.

In the girls game, the black team used a strong outside shooting night from Hawley's Paige Thompson to knock off the White team, 76-63. Paige Thompson finished with a game high of 25 points and hit five 3-pointers in the win. Natalie Steichen added 16, while Sarah Thompson finished with 15. Grace Steichen finished with 12 points. Along with the top scorers, the black team featured Sophie Aigner, Audreana Fleisher, Ann Halverson and Kaylie Isamen. Perham's Gabby DeBoer was selected but was unable to attend due to prior commitments.

Adriana Torres led the way for the white team, finishing with a team high of 16 points. Peyton Boom added 13, while Paige Zielger ended with 10 points. The white team featured Perham's Josie Beachy along with Jena Jacobson, Rae Critchley, Andria McIntyre and Maddie Guler.

Isamen of Pelican Rapids won the 2017 Heart O'Lakes Conference 3-point contest as well.


The boys game featured a lot of 3-pointers and several dunks. The teams combined for 44 3-pointers as the black team pulled away for a 129-115 victory.

Ethan Edeen led the black team with 30 points, while Kyle Rothschadl finished with 21. Reid Moser and Stevin Lipp added 16 points each. Carson Yaggie finished with 14, while Aaron Solberg added 11. Jayden Carlisle finished with nine points, while Noah Glad and Charle Aakre finished with six points each.

Jenson Beachy led all scorers in the game, finishing with 40 points. He connected on 10 3-pointers in the loss. Drew Thompson finished with 18 points, while Dustin Parsons finished with 17. Jacob Gottenborg added 13 while Oakley Kress ended with 16. Noah Christensen finished with eight and Joey Roste rounded out the field with three. Perham's Logan Richter and Breckenridge's Derek Dahlgren were selected as well, but were unable to attend the event.

Rothschadl put on a show during the 3-point contest. He sunk 18 3-pointers in 45 seconds, winning the 2017 3-point contest.
