Kids of Valor will be hosting Hoops for Hope April 8 in Henning as their first major fundraising event.
The faith-based nonprofit organization was created to build relationships with families who are financially challenged and those who have a child facing a life-threatening medical condition. Focusing on Otter Tail and Wadena Counties, they are dedicated to bringing these families together when circumstances threaten to rip them apart. This will be done by working to provide supportive activities- recreational opportunities for them to connect, share, and encourage one another. The events will foster support and lasting friendships among families as they journey through their challenges together.
The evening's activities begin at 6 p.m. with a Special Olympics basketball game, followed by a 3-point contest at 6:45 p.m. The main event will start at 7:30 p.m. where Henning Alumni will compete against an All-Star team made up of players from 15 local communities.
Both teams will feature players dating back to the 70's. Christopher Duffley will be performing the National Anthem. Christopher, born premature with cocaine in his system and a minimal chance of surviving at just 1 lb. 12 ounces, is completely blind and was diagnosed with autism. Christopher has performed the National Anthem for major league baseball games, Nascar races, and also uses his talent for worship ministry.
The focus of the evening's festivities will be the kids in the crowd. They be be allowed to participate in games and contests throughout the night. One fan will have a chance to win $10,000. The Just for Kix dancers and the Alexandria Aces will provide halftime entertainment for the two games.
