Yellowjackets tennis lost to Minnewaska Area 6-1 in team sections Monday, May 24, in East Grand Forks. Perham's lone team win was Jack Birkeland at 3rd singles, who defeated Minnewaska's Ethan Quelle in three sets.
Head coach Lori Peterson said the boys played hard but couldn't match the experienced Minnewaska players.
"We had some really tight matches," she said. "The team battled hard but was not able to overcome the more experience Minnewaska team."
In individual competition, Perham's Josh Peterson took fourth place overall. He defeated Evan Christenson of Crookston 6-0, 6-1, then he defeated Thief River Falls' Reece Janisch 6-0, 6-0 before losing in the semifinals to Tate Reichmann of Minnewaska 2-6, 6-1, 6-0. Peterson lost to Isaac Maddock of Osakis 6-0, 6-0, in the third place match to finish fourth.
"He had a good run and knows what he needs to work on over the summer," Peterson said.

This season has been a year of rebuilding in some ways. It was Peterson's first season as the head coach, and there was no season in 2019, so she is hoping the players continue to work over the summer to build a more successful season next year.
"We have such a great group of kids on this team, and I look forward to getting them out this summer to practice in the off-season," she said. "I think the players improved quite a bit and we want to see that development continue through the summer for next year's season. All in all, it was a great season and I'm privileged to have gotten to work with this group."
