Park Rapids-After returning to action from an extended break, the fourth ranked Perham Yellowjacket gymnastics team cruised to a 141.825-106.10 victory over the Park Rapids Panthers on Monday, Jan. 5 in Park Rapids, Minn. “It was a good meet coming back from the holiday break,” Perham Assistant Coach Mike Peterson said. “It was one of our better scores, but not our best or certainly not near our worst. It went pretty well that way. We had some individuals do a nice job. Jordan Martinson had a very good night. We had others coming back and putting new things in their routine. It’s a work in progress and it’s looking better.” Perham’s Jordan Martinson was the all-around winner. She finished with a score of 36.050, capturing the meet title. Lexi Peichel finished second for the Yellowjackets in the all-around. Peichel recorded a 35.00. “Lexi has had a nice season. She is coming around on a lot of events. Floor is her best event. She is starting to clean up her beam routine, and her vault and bars are improving,” Peterson said. “She is having a nice year as a senior. She is steadily progressing each meet. It’s good to have somebody like Jordan Martinson and Adrienne Meyer there to push her too.” Adrienne Meyer ended in third. She finished with a 34.975 in the all-around.
Park Rapids’ Olivia Fischer was fourth, rounding out the all-around field. Fischer finished with a 27.450. Peterson said the young team is figuring out what it takes to compete at the varsity level. “The progression is good. We are dealing with a lot of seventh and eighth graders at the varsity level and they are getting used to it now,” Peterson said. “The biggest thing for them now is to learn how to compete. If somebody doesn’t have a great night on on event, someone else has to pick it up. They are starting to understand that and things are getting better that way.” The Yellowjackets recorded a team score of 36.50 on the vault. Sydney Bahls had the top score at 9.450. Martinson was second with a vault of 9.350. Perham recorded a 36.200 to take the uneven bars. Carly Breitenfeldt led the way for the Yellowjackets. Her routine recorded a score of 9.40.
