The last two times Pequot Lakes stepped onto the Ted Meinhover Field, the Patriots left dejected, suffering a 34-32 regular season defeat and a 54-33 Section 8AAA semifinal defeat in the 2018 season.

It appeared the Yellowjackets were going to hand Pequot Lakes its third straight defeat in Perham, but Cale Wolf hit Bode Magnuson with 56 seconds left to tie the game and Daltin Ackerman kicked the only extra point of the game, lifting Pequot Lakes to a 29-28 victory over the Yellowjackets on Oct. 10.

Wolf threw for three touchdowns and helped anchor a comeback after Perham erased a 16-point first half deficit. Wolf passed for 210 yards on 16 of 25 passing. Magnusson finished with five receptions for 55 yards including the game's final touchdown. Alex Morgan had three receptions for 87 yards and a score, while Ackerman added three receptions for 42 yards and a score in the win.

Perham found success on the ground as the inclement weather helped slow down the Perham attack. Dawson Kellogg rushed for 129 yards and two touchdowns, while Colton Hackel rushed for 97 yards. Hackel completed six of 15 pass attempts for 97 yards and one touchdown.

A short field led to the first score of the game. The Patriots went 12 yards in three plays and finished the drive with a 1-yard run by Wolf. He found Ackerman for the 2-point conversion to make it 8-0 late in the first quarter.

A Perham turnover gave the Patriots good field position in the second quarter and they capitalized with an 11 play drive that went 50 yards. Wolf hit Ackerman for a 14-yard score on third down to make it 14-0. Zach Jorgens rushed in the 2-point conversion to make it 16-0 heading into the half.

The Yellowjackets took the opening possession of the second half 63 yards in seven plays. It was capped off by a 5-yard run by Kellogg, his first touchdown of the game. Kellogg converted the 2-point conversion as well, cutting the lead to 16-8.

After the Perham defense forced a quick punt. The Yellowjackets came back with a 16 play drive that eclipsed six minutes on the clock and went 86 yards. The drive was capped off by a 4-yard touchdown run by Kellogg, his second of the game, which made it 16-14 after the failed 2-point conversion.

The Patriots opened the fourth quarter with a touchdown pass when Wolf hit Alex Morgan for a 55-yard catch and run to make it 22-14 after the failed two-point conversion.

On the ensuing kick off, Noah Rooney broke free and scampered through the Patriots' special teams for an 83-yard kick off return for a touchdown. Perham tied the game on the 2-point conversion by Kellogg.

After the Perham defense came up with a stop, Perham marched 83 yards in nine plays for its first lead of the game. Hackel hit Finn Diggins for a 20-yard touchdown on fourth down. However, the 2-point conversion was no good.

Pequot Lakes answered with a 12 play, 64-yard drive for the win. Wolf connected with Magnuson on a 5-yard pass on third down to tie the game. The Patriots called time out and decided to kick the extra point instead of go for the 2-point conversion. The decision paid off when Ackerman put it through the uprights to make it 29-28.

The final drive for Perham stalled and Pequot Lakes escaped with its third straight victory.

The Patriots finished with 327 yards of total offense, while Perham finished with 317 yards. Perham rushed for 220 yards and passed for 97, while Pequot Lakes rushed for 117 and passed for 210. Pequot Lakes had success on third down, converting eight of their 14 attempts, while Perham was three of 13.

Perham dropped its season mark to 5-2 overall on the season, while Pequot Lakes improved to 5-2. The Yellowjackets close the regular season on Oct. 16 when they take on Detroit Lakes at 7 p.m. Detroit Lakes improved to 7-0 when they defeated Fergus Falls 55-14.
