Many of the state's best teams to compete in Alexandria on Saturday

Basketball fans have an opportunity to see many of the top boys and girls teams in the state play in Alexandria during a full slate of games on Saturday.

The Breakdown Sports USA Winter Lakes Classic at Alexandria Area High School will feature 14 different programs, with 13 of those coming into town with records well over the .500 mark. The lineup includes local programs in Alexandria (13-4), Osakis (16-1, ranked No. 10 in AA) and Perham (15-0, ranked No. 6 in AA) on the boys side, and Alexandria (15-5, ranked No. 10 in AAA) among the girls teams.

Other teams in the field for the boys are Delano (14-2, ranked No. 7 in AAA), Sauk Centre (6-12), East Grand Forks (15-0, ranked No. 7 in AA), Melrose (14-5) and Eden Valley-Watkins (15-1).

Girls programs in attendance also include Becker (16-2, No. 2 in Class AAA), Sauk Centre (17-1, No. 1 in AA), Eden Valley-Watkins (14-6), Hawley (15-4) and Henning (19-1, No. 5 in Class A).

The Alexandria girls will take on that 16-2 Becker team in the second game of the day at approximately 11:30 a.m.


The Osakis boys will battle undefeated Perham at approximately 6 p.m. before the Alexandria boys wrap up the day’s schedule with a 7:30 game against Delano.


10 a.m. - Hawley vs. Henning (girls)

11:30 a.m. - Becker vs. Alexandria (girls)

1:15 p.m. - Sauk Centre vs. East Grand Forks (boys)

2:45 p.m. - Eden Valley-Watkins vs. Sauk Centre (girls)

4:15 p.m. - Melrose vs. Eden Valley-Watkins (boys)

6 p.m. - Osakis vs. Perham (boys)


7:30 p.m. - Delano vs. Alexandria (boys)
