MOORHEAD – Minnesota State Moorhead has added a three-time state finalist to its wrestling program.
New York Mills senior Shane Novak has verbally committed to the Dragons.
Novak finished second at 120 pounds in Minnesota Class 1A earlier this month. He was a state champion at 113 pounds as a junior and runner-up at 112 as a sophomore.
“I liked the campus,” said Novak. “It’s a small campus. I come from a small town.”
Novak advanced to the state tournament five times in his career at New York Mills. He set the career wins record at the school with more than 190 victories.

Novak said he expects to wrestle at 125 pounds and plans not to redshirt in his first season with MSUM.
Novak also considered North Dakota State, but likely would not have wrestled had he decided to go to NDSU.
Novak said he got a good vibe from MSUM head coach Kris Nelson during the recruitment process.
“I got along with him and communicated well with him,” said Novak, who said he got partial athletic and academic scholarship money.
