O’Hara leads the way at Spartan Duals

The event is a usual 5k race but it’s scored differently. Each team is paired off against each other and its scored as a dual competition. Perham was victorious in all five duals defeating Breckenridge/Wahpeton 19-47, Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton 19-77, Fargo North 19-37, Fargo South 16-87, and Fargo Oak Grove/Shanley/Park Christian, 15-50.

O’Hara won the event by nearly 20 seconds when he crossed the finish line with a time of 16 minutes and 46.77 seconds. He defeated two state-ranked runners as well on his way to capturing the crown in Fargo.

Perham dominated the event with five runners in the top 10 overall. Clayton Anderson came in fourth place. He crossed the line with a time of 17:27.02. Bailey Evenson finished fifth at 17:30.52 and was followed by Jakob McCleary in sixth place. McCleary finished the race with a time of 17:46.96. Chase Belka rounded out the Perham runners in the top 10. Belka finished eighth overall when he crossed the line at 18:00.53.

Owen Werner came in 13th place with a time of 18:24.17, while Isaac Scheidecker finished in 19th place with a time of 19:01.88. Gunnar Anderson came in 20th place at 19:11.29, while Elijah Morris rounded out the field for Perham in 24th place at 19:36.55.

The Yellowjackets head on the road again for the St. Olaf Showcase on Aug. 30 in Northfield, Minn. It’s one of the premier early season events and it’s at the site of the Class A State Championships, which gives the Yellowjackets a chance to run on the very familiar course and the site of their most recent success when they captured the title last year.
