Perham and Hawley share title at opening golf event

The Perham girls golf team is used to having a target on its back when they compete in the Heart O'Lakes Conference. The defending HOL champion maybe facing their toughest test when it comes to defending the HOL crown.

The Perham girls golf team is used to having a target on its back when they compete in the Heart O’Lakes Conference. The defending HOL champion maybe facing their toughest test when it comes to defending the HOL crown.

The Yellowjackets competed for the first time this season on a windy afternoon on April 25 in Hawley. The Nuggets, on their home course, gave the Yellowjackets its toughest test as the two teams split the crown when they both finished with rounds of 206. Barnesville was third with a round of 209, showcasing the fact the HOL opponents are starting to close the gap on their rival. Pelican Rapids finished fourth with a 216, while Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton and Frazee tied for fifth with rounds of 240. Breckenridge came in seventh with a 253.

Perham’s Allie King was the medalist for the meet. She shot the low round of 46, finishing one stroke ahead of teammate, Mallory Belka. Belka finished with a 47.

Hawley’s Faith Justesen finished in third place with a round of 48. Pelican Rapids had a pair of finishers in the top five with Ellie Johnson finishing with a 49 and Jaida Simpson coming into the clubhouse with a 50 for fifth place.

Hope Rosen finished the day with a 56 for Perham, while Lexi Kunza and Olivea MacDonald came in with rounds of 57. Brooke Germain rounded out the field for Perham with a 64.
