Perham boys, girls, take first at track meet

Teams continue to improve in all events


The Perham boys and girls track teams took first place in a meet at Pelican Rapids Thursday, April 29. They defeated the teams of United Clay Becker, Pelican Rapids, Park Christian, and Hillcrest.

In the track events for the girls team, Perham's Gracie Morris took first in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.96. Quincy Anderson won the 3200m run with a time of 13:51. Lauryn Rustad took first in the 100m hurdles and the 300m hurdles with times of 17.48 and 53.50, respectively. The girls relay teams also took first in the 4x100m relay with a time of 55.80, the 4x200m relay with a time of 1:59.15, and the 4x800m relay with a time of 11:03.90.

In the boys track events, Levi Richter won the 100m dash with a time 12.08. Jakob McCleary took first in the 800m run and 1600m run with times of 2:03.23 and 4:36.58, respectively. Carson Hespe won the 3200m run with a time of 10:34.05, and Tiavion Posey took first in the 110m hurdles with a time of 18.85. The boys relay teams also took first in the 4x100m relay with a time of 47.53, the 4x200m relay with a time of 1:39.06, and the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:45.45.

The girls team also did well in the field events. The Yellowjackets took the top five spots in the pole vault, led by Danial VanWatermulen with a height of 9-00. Perham also swept the triple jump event, with Perham's Jaden Hackel winning with a distance of 34-10.50.

In field events for the boys team, the Yellowjackets took the top three spots in the pole vault. Levi Richter took first place with a height of 12-00. Richter also took first in the long jump with a distance of 19-09.00. Colton Hackel took first in the triple jump with a distance of 39-11, and Caleb Lung won the shot put with a distance of 45-09.


Head coach Mike Peterson was pleased with how the athletes competed. "We have nothing but praise for the athletes and the awesome effort that they continue to put out on a daily basis, both in practices and meets."

The Yellowjackets host their next meet at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 4.
