Perham boys golf returns to the win column

With Hawley and Barnesville putting the pressure on, the Perham boys golf team responded with a big win at the Heart O'Lakes Conference Breckenridge meet on May 11.

With Hawley and Barnesville putting the pressure on, the Perham boys golf team responded with a big win at the Heart O’Lakes Conference Breckenridge meet on May 11.

The Yellowjackets dropped back-to-back conference meets before responding by winning the meet in Breckenridge by nine strokes over Hawley. The Yellowjackets finished with a score of 319, while Hawley ended with a 328. Barnesville finished with a 336. Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton came in fourth with a score of 361. Pelican Rapids finished with a score of 374 coming in fifth. Frazee finished sixth with a score of 407. Breckenridge rounded out the field, finishing with a score of 413.

Perham’s Charlie Rasmussen was the medalist. He won the meet by two strokes, finishing with a 76. Hawley’s Satchel Tickel finished second with a 78. Perham’s Isaac Guck cracked the top three, finishing with a 79. He won a scorecard playoff over Barnesville’s Adam Tonsfeldt for third. Hawley’s Carter Justesen came into the clubhouse with an 80, while Barnesville’s Grant Inniger finished with an 82, rounding out the top six.

Perham’s Ben Nelson fired an 82 as did Marcus Belka. Philip Guck came into the clubhouse with a 95, while Leighton Rach finished with a 100.

Perham currently sits on top of the HOL with eight points. Hawley has 14 for second place, while Barnesville sits in third with 15 points. Pelican Rapids, DGF, Frazee and Breckenridge round out of the field with a sizeable gap in points. Pelican Rapids is 11 points back of Barnesville in fourth.

The Yellowjackets return to the course on Monday, May 15 with the HOL-Perham meet, beginning at noon at Perham Lakeside Golf Course.
