Perham closes strong against Sauk Centre

Jenson Beachy took over down the stretch, helping lead the Perham boys basketball team to a 66-55 victory over the Sauk Centre Mainstreeters at the Hive on Dec. 28.

Beachy scored nine of his 18 points in crunchtime and helped the Yellowjackets close on a 19-7 run.

Perham trailed 48-47 after a basket by Jackson Berscheid, but Perham slowly took the game over. Charlie Rasmussen earned an old-fashioned 3-point play and Beachy sunk a pair of free throws to give Perham a 52-48 lead and one it wouldn’t relinquish. After a free throw by Finn Diggins, Beachy scored eight of the next 10 points as Perham stretched the lead out to 61-52.

Josh Jeziorski finished with 18 points as well for Perham. He finished with three 3-pointers and scored 11 of his 18 points in the second half.

Charlie Rasmussen and Finn Diggins finished with nine points each. All nine of Diggins’ points came in the second half. Carter Cresap added seven for Perham as well.

Sauk Centre was led by 7’0” junior center Jacob Jennissen. The junior finished with 17 points, while Logan Suelflow added 13 and Steven Namvar finished with 12 points.

Despite the height advantage, the Yellowjackets held a slim edge in rebounding, 27-26, led by Rasmussen’s eight boards. Perham came up when it needed to at the free throw line as well. Perham hit 16 of its 21 attempts, including 12 of 15 in the second half.

Perham closes out play in the Grand8 Holiday Classic with a 12:30 p.m. tip against Fergus Falls. It was a game added late due to Foley and Morris being unable to attend the tournament. Sauk Centre will play Hawley at 4 p.m. in another additional game to the tournament.
