The Perham Yellowjacket boys tennis team was hoping to build on its win over the Park Rapids Panthers on May 3 when they hosted the East Grand Forks Green Wave. While it was a warmer day outside, a strong wind affected play and made it tough for both teams.
However, it was the Green Wave that came away with a 5-2 victory over the Yellowjackets. The Yellowjackets are now 2-3 in dual meet competition, with several key matches looming for section seeding purposes.
Carter Cresap earned the lone singles with for the Yellowjackets at No. 3 singles, while the doubles duo of Ryan Murphy and Gunnar Anderson continued their strong run at No. 2 doubles.
Cresap earned a straight set victory, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 3, while Anderson and Murphy won in straight sets as well. Anderson and Murphy won their match, 6-2, 6-3.
Thomas Marcouiller was edged out at No. 1 singles, 4-6, 3-6. Ben Nelson suffered a straight set defeat at No. 2 singles, 0-6, 2-6. Matt Stoll dropped a marathon match at No. 4 singles, going three sets. Stoll dropped the first set, 0-6, rebounded to win the second set, 6-4, yet was defeated in the third set, 2-6.

The team of Tyler Fudge and Dylan Fudge dropped a tough first set, 6-7 (4-7), before falling in straight sets, 2-6, at No. 1 doubles.
The team of Wyatt Guck and Evan Guck were edged in three sets at No. 3 doubles. They won their first set, 6-4. However, they were defeated 5-7 in the second and 3-6 in the third.
The Yellowjackets will have some time on the practice courts before returning to competition. The Yellowjackets next meet is at home on Tuesday, May 10 when they host Park Rapids at the Perham Tennis Courts. The Yellowjackets follow that up with their final home contest of the season against Detroit Lakes on Thursday, May 12. The Yellowjackets defeated Park Rapids, 6-1, earlier in the season and dropped a narrow, 4-3, decision to Detroit Lakes in their previous meeting.
