Perham girls 12th at St. Olaf Showcase

The Perham girls cross country team showcased why they are one of the top teams in the state when they finished 12th at the St. Olaf Showcase in Northfield, Minn., on Aug. 30.

The Perham girls cross country team showcased why they are one of the top teams in the state when they finished 12th at the St. Olaf Showcase in Northfield, Minn., on Aug. 30.

The Yellowjackets the top-ranked team in Class A finished with 388 points. Wayzata finished first with a score of 45 points. St. Michael-Albertville came in second with 72 points. Mountain View was third with 134 points, followed by Forest Lake in fourth and Minneapolis Washburn in fifth.

The Yellowjackets finished with a score of 388, 48 points behind 11th place Waseca and 56 points behind Maple Grove in the highly contested field of 33 teams.

Minneapolis Washburn’s Emily Covert was the top finisher. She came in with a time of 17 minutes and 7.9 seconds. She was followed closely by Math and Science Academy’s Tierney Wolfgram. Wolfgram finished with a time of 17:28.3. Mountain View’s Lexy Halladay came in third at 18:21.6, while Wayzta’s Emma Atkinson was fourth and St. MIchael-Albertville’s Ali Weimer came in fifth.

Perham senior Caitlin Covington led the way for the Yellowjackets. She finished in 42nd place but was the second-finishing Class A runner in the field. Covington came across the finish line with a time of 20:00.7.


Liz Birkeland was the second Yellowjackets’ runner across the finish line. She finished with a time of 20:49.9. Birkeland finished in 61st place overall. Emily VanWatermulen finished in 96th place overall. She crossed the line at 21:29.5.

Quincy Anderson followed in 101st place with a time of 21:39.1. Hailey Wegscheid made her season debut for the Yellowjackets. The senior runner finished in 123rd place with a time of 21:52.6.

Lauryn Rustad came in 129th place with a finishing time of 21:57.0 and was the sixth Yellowjacket to finish the line. Mya Morris rounded out the field for the varsity team when she finished with a time of 21:59.0.

The Yellowjackets return to action with the annual Minnesota State University-Moorhead Twilight meet on the campus of MSU-M on Friday, Sept. 7.
