Perham girls run out in front at home meet

The Yellowjackets were out in front during the Perham Invitational when the Perham girls team finished first with 203 points at the Ted Meinhover Athletic Complex on April 16 in Perham.

The Yellowjackets were out in front during the Perham Invitational when the Perham girls team finished first with 203 points at the Ted Meinhover Athletic Complex on April 16 in Perham.

The Yellowjackets excelled across the board on their way to the dominating victory. Frazee, who finished second, recorded just 88.5 points. Ottertail Central was third with 68 points, while Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale came in fourth at 54 and in fifth was Breckenridge with 47 points.

Perham used its depth throughout to capture the title. Perham had first place finishes in the sprints, distance and in the field events as they cruised to the win in their first outdoor meet of the season.

Lizzy LaFond sprinted towards a first place finish in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.17 seconds. Caitlin Covington was out in front of the pack in the 1600 meter run. The senior finished with a winning time of five minutes, 36.57 seconds.

Liz Birkeland led the field in the 3200m run. She finished with a time of 12:07.68.

Perham captured a pair of relay victories as well. Perham was first in the 400m relay at 52.24 and first in the 3200m relay at 10:24.28.

Ashley Hokanson continued her dominance in the pole vault. She finished first with a vault of 10 feet, nine inches for top honors. Shalie Lipp finished in second place in the pole vault as well with Perham capturing the top two spots.

Perham’s Maggie Ingebrand led a host of Yellowjackets in the shot put. Perham captured the top four spots in the shot put. Ingebrand had a toss of 34 feet, seven inches for the win. Oakley McNair, Rachel Muer and Tayler Parks followed behind in second, third and fourth place, respectively.

Parks made it a clean sweep in the throws for Perham. She finished first in the discus with a winning toss of 98-11. She was followed by Samantha Charboneau in second place.

Mesa Schultz earned second place honors in the 200m dash, while Lacy Richter came in second in the 300m hurdles.

The Yellowjackets return to the track on April 18 when they host their second outdoor event of the season.
