Dylan Fudge, Ty Moser and Zach Peterson made it three-for-three in the Class AA Individual Semifinals on March 2 at the Xcel Energy Center.

The Yellowjacket senior trio becomes the first three wrestlers to reach the finals since the 2008 season and hope to become the first state champion since Michael Guehna won in 2007.

“(It feels) awesome. This has been something that we have worked for, for years and years,” Moser said. “To finally be able to get to this moment and reap the benefits of the hard work is something that is really special.”

Dylan Fudge earned a 3-1 victory over Fairmont’s Miles Fitzgerald. He was able to overcome a shot to the nose that stopped the match momentarily. He held off Fitzgerald in the third period and captured the victory.

Fudge picked up his 200th career win earlier in the tournament, now will add to his career achievements with a first place win or a runner-up finish. Fudge rebounded from not making it to the Class AA Individual Tournament last year and being a Section 8AA runner-up in 2019 at 152.

Fudge will square off against Waconia’s Tim Stapleton. Stapleton defeated Fudge 4-3 during the Class AA Team Tournament in the third place match.

Moser said it’s easy to get caught up in the bright lights of the tournament and that it throws people off. For Moser, it was keeping his composure and wrestling it like it was any other match.

Moser did just that when he picked up the 18-3 technical fall victory over Fridley’s Josh Franklin.

Moser will take on Kasson-Mantorville’s Grant Parrish in the Class AA championship at 195. Parrish advanced with a 15-10 victory over Albany’s Gabe Zierden.

“These are the matches that you dream off since you were a little kid,” Moser said. “To be able to prepare for this with Zach and Dylan makes it all the better.”

Peterson’s match with Quayin Short went to the wire and Peterson got the final two points in the closing seconds for the 3-1 victory. Peterson erased the 1-0 deficit with an early escape and then battled to get the take down.

“In the last period, I went down and I was like I’m getting out. He is a good rider and I had to keep moving,” Peterson said. “I just had to keep wearing on him. I got in on a single and I was like Zach, you are in deep, you have to score. I thought I scored with 20 seconds left, it turns out I scored with three seconds left. It’s really cool and I’m really thankful.”

Peterson said he stuck to the game plan heading into the contest with Short. The two did not wrestle when Perham defeated Simley during the dual at the Hive.

“My coaches did a great job of looking at his style and making a game plan for me,” Peterson said. “I tried to stick to it, worked my hardest and left it all out on the mat. I got really tired but it was a lot of fun.”

Peterson will wrestle against Kasson-Mantorville’s Patrick Kennedy. Kennedy boasts a perfect 45-0 record and defeated Peterson in last year’s semifinals.
