Perham grapplers capture regular season finale

The Perham wrestling team closed out the regular season with a 30-26 victory over the Willmar Cardinals in a tune up for the Section 8AA Team Tournament. The Yellowjackets received a key victory at 195 from Dawson Kellogg which locked up the duel on Feb. 4 at the Prairie Wind Middle School gymnasium.

The Yellowjackets finish with an 18-3 dual meet record and will be the No. 1 seed in the East subsection for the Section 8AA Tournament. Perham will wrestle on Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. The official brackets have not yet been released at this time.

It was a nice win for the Yellowjackets to close the season with as they defeated the No. 1 seed from the Section 8AAA Team Tournament.

After dropping a match at 106, Perham returned to the win column with a pin from Kaden Feldt at 3:37.

Willmar came back and grabbed the lead with two straight wins at 120 and 126, but Perham earned back-to-back decision wins from Gabe Bellefeuille at 132 and Blake Lorentz at 138. Bellefeuille won 4-2, while Lorentz was victorious by a 5-4 decision.

Willmar snapped the mini win streak with a major decision win at 145. Yet, Perham responded with a pair of fall wins at 152 and 160. Jack Fudge captured a pin at 152 when he defeated Jacob Leiva at the one minute and 40 second mark. Lung was able to turn his opponent at the 4:04 mark of the match at 160 for a pin as well.

Perham picked up its final two wins at 182 and 195 with Gordon Enyart and Kellogg. Enyart defeated Blake Lara by an 11-9 decision.

Kellogg defeated Kaden Streed by a 4-3 decision to help Perham secure the dual meet win. Willmar closed out with a fall win at 220 and a decision win at 285.

The Section 8AA Team Tournament begins on Feb. 11 at 6 p.m. with play-in matches. The quarterfinal rounds begin at 7 p.m. on Feb. 11.

The semifinals and the championship match take place on Feb. 14 at the Hive in Perham. The semifinal matches will begin at 6 p.m. and the championship is scheduled for 8 p.m.
