Perham gymnastics breaks another record hosting largest camp ever

PERHAM -- The Perham gymnastics team held their Annual Perham Gymnastics Camp and hosted over 100 athletes led by 16 coaches from around the region and from multiple states.

PERHAM -- The Perham gymnastics team held their Annual Perham Gymnastics Camp and hosted over 100 athletes led by 16 coaches from around the region and from multiple states.

The camp was the largest attendance had in the camp's history.

Gymnasts from - Perham, Ottertail, Dent, Fargo, N.D., Sartell, East Grand Forks, Mapleton, N.D., Grand Forks, N.D., Crookston, Glyndon, Fergus Falls, Frazee, New York Mills, Richville, Bismarck, N.D., Alexandria, New Prague, Elk River, Delano, Becker, Eden Prairie, John's Island, S.C., Battle Lake and Benson - all participated in Saturday's camp held at Perham High School.

A championship team of 16 coaches helped supervise the camp.

Perham head coach Charlie Fleck, holder of 17 state championships, 30 section titles and 39 individual champions in Minnesota and North Dakota, led the camp.

His daughter, Heidi Fleck Tillman, director of American Gold Gymnastics in Fargo, was the head clinician.

Former Yellowjacket state champions Satera Montella, Jenna Schmitz, Carly Petersen and Kelsi Vomacka were on hand.

Montella was a member of five straight state championship teams; Schmitz was a three-time state champion; Peterson was a two-time state vault champion and Vomacka holds more state awards than any gymnast in the state of Minnesota and is a member of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse team.

The lauded list of coaches also included:

2009 national high school coach of the year Curt Sherbrooke; Minnesota Hall of Fame member and New Prague Head Coach Matt Shetka; New Prague Head Club Coach Doug Amundson; Fargo former level 10 and nationals place-winner Ali Kollman; Big Lake head club coach and assistant high school coach Jessy Wiley; 2012 state champion Melrose assistant coach Alex Bade; Allison and Dave Vogel from Long Prairie; Kayla Cordes, Lakes Area Gymnastics Academy - Perham, and Rick Wolf, coach of 15 individual champions from Fridley.
