The Perham Yellowjackets will travel to Melrose to defend their Section 8A gymnastics title Saturday, March 20. The section champion will compete in the state tournament Friday, March 26, at Champlin Park High School.

Section 8A has two teams ranked in the top 10 in Class A, according to the Minnesota Gymnastics Coaching Association. Perham is ranked third, while Melrose is ranked sixth. The Yellowjackets defeated Melrose earlier in the season and hope to do the same Saturday. Perham senior Jada Olsen will also try to defend her Section 8A All-Around title.

In addition to the team's talent, it is also well-coached. Head coach Jenna Kupferschmid was named Section 8A Head Coach of the Year, and assistant coach Mike Peterson was named Section 8A Assistant Coach of the Year. Perham was also named the Section Academic Team Champions with a 3.916 GPA.
