The Perham-New York Mills girls swimming and diving team went up to Moorhead and set 17 personal records last Tuesday. The records were a combination of season and all-time milestones in the Yellowjackets’ narrow 97-81 loss to the Spuds.
“The girls rocked it last night,” Perham head coach Jensen Grimley said. “Swimming against a much larger team is difficult, and we did not have the depth to pull off a win, but the girls saw a lot of success. There were two more section qualifications, one more girl completed her Iron Woman and another middle school record was broken.”
Eighth-grader Taylor Ziemke has been breaking middle schools records left and right this fall. On Tuesday, she set the new bar for the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:00.63. Ziemke shattered the previous record held by Jackie Hanson by 8.95 seconds.
Jaelyn Rodewald saw in the 200-yard IM and the 100-yard butterfly for the first time ever to complete her Iron Woman Challenge. She has now swum in all eight solo events this season. Molly Meyer and Elle McDonald set section qualification times in the 200-yard free and the 100-yard butterfly, respectively.
