The Perham/New York Mills girls tennis team returned to the win column with a 7-0 sweep of their Highway 10 rival, Detroit Lakes, at the Perham Tennis Courts on Sept. 8.

The win snapped a two meet skid for the Yellowjackets and may have turned the momentum for the Yellowjackets.

They won six of the seven matches in straight sets and took the only one that went the distance in a super tiebreak.

Kiera Radniecki won the final match on the court at No. 1 singles. She was able to outlast Siri Vagle in three setes. Radniecki won the first set 6-3, but Vagle battled with a strong second set, taking it 3-6. However, Raniecki responded with a 10-6 win in the third set.

Avery Beachy earned a straight set win over Mya Anderson at No. 2 singles. Beachy suffered an ankle injury last week, but quickly returned with her second straight event and showed little sign of injury in her 6-1, 6-0 victory over Anderson.

Mallory Belka cruised at No. 3 singles against Detroit Lakes’ Harper Bellefeuille. Belka only dropped three games on her way to a 6-3, 6-0 victory.

Jaden Hackel dropped just four games on her way to a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Amaya LeClair at No. 4 singles for the Yellowjackets, helping complete the singles sweep.

The doubles teams were just as successful as their singles counterparts against Detroit Lakes. LaVonne Lindberg and Kendra Moris earned a straight set victory at No. 1 doubles. They defeated Marit Engum and Abby Noll 6-3, 6-1.

Katie Johnson and Maggie Trites were victorious at No. 2 doubles. They earned a pair of narrow 6-4, 6-4 victories over Ari Leitheiser and Megan Lunde.

Maya Radniecki and Grayce Mickelson picked up a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Taylor Winter and Bella Wilson. It was the first varsity match for Mickelson when she picked up the win at No. 3 doubles with Radniecki.

The Yellowjackets hope to keep their momentum going when they take on Crosby-Ironton on Sept. 10 at 4 p.m. in Crosby.
