Perham/NYM extends streak with home win

The Perham/New York Mills girls tennis team is starting to find its groove. After a slow start to the season, the Yellowjackets have rattled off three straight wins to surge above the .500 mark on the season as they sit at 4-3 overall after a 5-2 victory over Park Rapids Area on Sept. 15.

The Yellowjackets claimed three of the four singles matches and won two of the three doubles matches on their way to their third straight win.

Avery Beachy, Mallory Belka and Jaden Hackel earned wins in singles action. Katie Johnson and Maggie Trites earned a doubles win as did the team of Maya Radniecki and Grayce Mickelson.

Avery Beachy earned a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Rachael Herman at No. 2 singles to pick up one of the three points for the Yellowjackets.

Mallory Belka was victorious over Morgan Koppelman at No. 3 singles. Belka did not drop a game on her way to the 6-0, 6-0 straight set win.

Jaden Hackel cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles when she defeated Hannah Morgan for the third singles point.

Park Rapids Area picked up its lone singles point at No. 1 singles when Abby Morris defeated Keira Radniecki in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.

Katie Johnson and Maggie Trites worked for a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 2 doubles when they defeated Cassidy Bera and Emily Schulz in straight sets.

Maya Radniecki and Grayce Mickeloson were victorious at No. 3 doubles when they picked up a 6-4, 6-1 win over Abby Runyon and Shailyn Hayes.

The lone victory for Park Rapids Area went three sets at No. 1 doubles. Mickey Clark and Macy Goochey defeated LaVonne Lindberg and Kendra Moris 1-6, 6-1 and 10-6.

The Yellowjackets hope to extend their streak when they host Pequot Lakes on Sept. 18 at the Perham Tennis Courts. The meet is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
