The Perham/New York Mills swimming team kicked off the 2019 season with the annual Detroit Lakes Pentathlon at the Detroit Lakes Community Center on Aug. 26.
The annual event features kids swimming in five events and is a great way for new swimmers to be introduced to competitive swimming, according to Perham/NYM head coach Jensen Maiden.
Maiden said the team had a great showing at the event. The Yellowjackets have added nine new swimmers for 2019 and Maiden said it was a great way to start the season.
"Our new swimmers are proving that they're here to work hard and prove themselves," Maiden said. "We also had several veterans cut some big time from their times last season."
Irene Mursu posted a section qualifying time in the 50 freestyle and senior Olivea McDonald scored points towards the team score in the event.
