The Perham/New York Mills girls tennis team wrapped up the regular season with a triangular meet against a pair of section rivals on Oct. 5 in East Grand Forks, Minn. The Yellowjackets saw their impressive eight match winning streak come to an end when they were defeated by Roseau, 4-3, but recovered with a 7-0 victory over East Grand Forks.

The Yellowjackets finished the regular season with an 11-5 mark and earned the No. 2 seed for the Section 8A playoffs, which begin on Oct. 12 at Courts Plus in Fargo. The Yellowjackets will square off with a familiar opponent in Wadena-Deer Creek. The Yellowjackets disposed of Wadena-DC, 6-1, earlier in the season.

In their opening match with Roseau, the Rams and the Yellowjackets split the singles matches, but it was the Rams taking two of the three doubles matches, securing the win. It may have been a section final preview as the Rams secured the No. 1 seed for the section. It was the second time Roseau defeated Perham/NYM during the season. The first time, Roseau edged the Yellowjackets, 5-2.

Makayla Melvin fell to Jodi Ostroski at No. 1 singles in straight sets, 2-6, 0-6.

The Yellowjackets picked up their wins in the middle at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. Brianna Schwantz defeated Ellice Murphy, 6-1, 6-0. Michelle Swyter was victorious in three sets at No. 3 singles. Swyter defeated Kiana Flaig, 6-3, 4-6 and 6-4. Jayda McFarlane was victorious over Avery Beachy at No. 4 singles. Beachy dropped the first set, 1-6, but battled back in the second set, before falling, 5-7.

The Yellowjackets rebounded with a convincing win when they defeated East Grand Forks, 7-0. It avenged an earlier defeat to the Green Wave.

Melvin was victorious in three sets when she defeated Jenna Dietrich, 1-6, 6-4 and 10-4. Schwantz earned a straight set win over Maggie Dietrich, 6-3, 7-5 at No. 2 singles. Swyter won in straight sets over Katelyn Farder, 6-0, 6-1. Beachy earned a victory over Katie Johnson, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2, at No. 4 singles.
