After a crushing 3-0 defeat to Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton, the Perham volleyball team needed to bounce back. The Yellowjackets did in convincing fashion when they dismantled Heart O'Lakes Conference rival Hawley 25-14, 25-19 and 25-14 at the Hive on Oct. 10.
The victory was a measure of revenge for the Yellowjackets. Perham was defeated by Hawley 3-1 in Hawley after a controversial ruling affected the final game. However, Perham overcame that in their second meeting of the season when they came out aggressive and took advantage of a short-handed Hawley squad, who was without the services of Paige Thompson.
Lily DeBoer led a balanced Perham attack with 11 kills. Katie Zepper finished with eight kills, while Stella Raser finished with five kills. Jaden Hackel added four kills, while Kaylie Kirchenwitz finished with three kills and Willow Thiel recorded two kills in her return from injury.
Grayce Mickelson recorded a team-high 25 digs in the win, while Katie Johnson handed out 18 set assists in the win.
The Yellowjackets improved to 10-15 on the season and have one Heart O'Lakes Conference contest remaining with Barnesville. The Trojans enter the game with a 19-7 record overall and are undefeated in conference play. They have won four straight games with wins over DGF, Wadena-Deer Creek, Sebeka and Pelican Rapids.
