Perham rolls in opener, falls to Minnehaha Academy

In a battle of two of the top team's in Class AA in Minnesota, it was Minnehaha Academy using a late first half run to pull away from the Perham Yellowjackets 78-48 at the Big 12 Classic at Cretin-Derham Hall on Dec. 1.

Jalen Suggs led the way for the defending state champion Redhawks with 30 points. He was 11 of 15 from the field and hit on four of his seven 3-pointers in the win. The Redhawks, ranked No. 1, forced 20 Perham turnovers and used an 18-3 run in the first half to put the game away.

Elijah Morris paced the Yellowjackets. He finished with a team high of 19 points. He hit on five of his six 3-point attempts. Josh Jeziorski finished with 10 points in the game for Perham.

Chet Holmgren finished with 20 points, while Donovan Smith and Prince Aligbe finished with nine each for the Redhawks.

Jenson Beachy added eight points in the defeat for Perham.


The Yellowjackets moved to 1-1 on the season and return to action with another Breakdown Classic event. The Yellowjackets will take on Caledonia at Hopkins High School on Dec. 8 at 1:45 p.m. in the Tip-Off Classic.

Perham vs. Crookston

Perham’s Jenson Beachy poured in 23 points, while Josh Jeziorski added 19 points as the third-ranked Yellowjackets cruised to an 86-51 victory over Crookston in the 2018-19 season-opener at the Hive on Nov. 29.

Perham built up a big first half lead and added to it with a dominant second half as they cruised to the 35 point victory in their home opener in their new building. Finn Diggins added nine points for the Yellowjackets in the victory.

Caden Osborn finished with 17 points, while Jaden Lubarski finished with 14 and Nick Garmen poured in 11 for the Pirates, but it wasn’t enough to hang with the high-octane Yellowjackets at the Hive.

The Yellowjackets shot 65.9 percent from inside the arc and were 39.1 percent from the 3-point line in the win. Jeziorski hit three triples, while Beachy and Elijah Morris hit two each.

Perham held a distinct advantage on the boards as well. Jeziorski grabbed seven of them while Diggins and Carter Cresap had six each. Cresap dished out six assists as well.
