Perham seventh at True Team Championships

The Perham gymnastics team returned to a familiar place when they competed at the Class A True Team Championships at the Ralph Anderson gymnasium on Jan. 26 in Detroit Lakes.

The Perham gymnastics team returned to a familiar place when they competed at the Class A True Team Championships at the Ralph Anderson gymnasium on Jan. 26 in Detroit Lakes.

The Detroit Lakes Lakers continued their dominance over the state in the event when they finished first with a team score of 188.4, which was more than six points better than the next closest competitor.

The event is the only one on the schedule that includes the scores from all five performers towards the final tally. Sartell finished second with a score of 182, while Willmar was third and Monticello was fourth. Watertown-Mayer-Mound Westonka came in fifth. Perham was seventh overall with a score of 174.3. The Yellowjackets were without a pair of key juniors in Dena Fischer and Mackenzie Rohloff for the event.

Jada Olsen was the All-Around winner. She posted a score of 37.657. Ashley Hokanson was closed behind with a 36.025, while Brittney Lorentz posted a 34.05. Avery McAllister finished with a 33.3 and Kassidy Kovar had a 33.25 in the All-Around competition.

The best event for Perham was the floor in which they posted a 44.85 team score. Hokanson had top honors for Perham on the floor with a 9.325, while Olsen finished with a 9.25.


Perham's second best event was the beam. Perham posted a 44.15. The Yellowjackets were led by Olsen's 9.425 on that event. McAllister finished with a 9.3, while Hokanson picked up a 9.05.

Perham recorded a 44.125 on the vault with Olsen recording a 9.65. Hokanson finished with a 9.05 on the vault.

Perham finished out the event with a 41.175 on bars. Olsen led the way with a 9.35.

The Yellowjackets return to the Hauer gymnasium on Thursday, Jan. 31 at 6 p.m. when they host the Bemidji Lumberjacks.
