Seeing a familiar foe helped the Perham Yellowjacket baseball team break out of its slump in a big way. The Yellowjackets belted out 12 hits and scored eight runs against former Mid-State Conference rival, Park Rapids, on its way to an 8-2 win at Al Krueger Field on April 22.

The win snaps a three game losing streak for the Yellowjackets, but most importantly, it saw the Perham bats come alive.

The Yellowjackets were stymied by some strong pitching in their losses to Breckenridge/Wahpeton and Barnesville.

Chandler Rach finished with four hits for the Yellowjackets, including a double and a triple. He drove in three runs in the game. Dylan Perrine and Nick Lindberg drove home two runs each as well.

It was more than enough support for Matt Benke. Benke earned the win on the mound for the Yellowjackets. Benke went five innings, allowing two runs, one earned on four hits. He struck out seven, while walking just one batter. He threw 56 of 78 pitches for strikes.

Jace Kovash closed the game out on the mound, pitching two perfect innings. He struck out three of the six batters he faced.

The Yellowjackets broke through in the second inning, after threatening to score in the first. It was Nick Lindberg, who drove in the game's first runs with a two-run single to left center, plating Rach and Chase Curtis. Perrine added a two run double in the inning as well, scoring Lindberg and Alec Meyer, making it 4-2, after Park Rapids scored two runs in the top half of the inning.

Curtis extended the Perham lead in the third with a sacrifice fly, scoring Roo Schmitz, making it 5-2.

Rach finished the Perham scoring in the fourth inning, when he cleared the bases with a triple, making it 8-2.

Andy Hanson added two hits and a run scored for Perham, while Perrine finished with three hits, to go with his three runs batted in.

Conner Byer suffered the loss for Park Rapids. He allowed seven runs on nine hits. He struck out two batters, while walking one.

The Yellowjackets improve their season mark to 2-3 overall on the season with the win. They return to action on the road on Monday, facing another former conference rival, the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines, in Wadena at 4:30 p.m.
