The Perham Yellowjacket swimming and diving team concluded its busiest stretch of the season with three meets in a seven day span. The Yellowjackets were edged by the Thief River Falls Prowlers, 92-78, on Sept. 19 in Thief River Falls, Minn.

"The Yellowjacket swimmers had some great races," Perham head coach Jensen Maiden said. "With the season well underway, we are starting to see some stabilizing with times. While this is true for some swimmers, we have a handful of girls who are still dropping remarkable amounts of time."

The Yellowjackets qualified one more swimmer for the section meet with Anna Carlson finishing with a time of one minute, 17.64 seconds for second place in the 100 butterfly. Carlson dropped six seconds off of her time in that event. Megan Tellinghuisen dropped seven seconds from her time in the 100 fly as well.

Dixie Carow finished in second in the 200 freestyle, cutting five seconds off of her time in that race. She finished with a time of 2:30.42. Maggie Ingebrand dropped time in the 100 freestyle, knocking off four seconds, finishing with a time of 1:10.53.

Irene Mursu earned first place honors in the 500 freestyle, finishing with a time of 6:31.20. It was a new personal best for Mursu. The Yellowjackets ended the meet with a first place finish in the 400 freestyle relay. Richter, Carow, Carlson and Tellinghuisen finished with a time of 4;17.01, earning top honors in the event.

"With all these substantial drops, we have many swimmers who are getting closer and closer to qualifying for sections," Maiden said. "We have a couple more days in the pool before our next dual meet in Park Rapids. Those practices will be spent working on breaking bad habits, speeding up our turns and striving to extend our endurance. "

The Yellowjackets return to the pool with Park Rapids Area on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 6 p.m.
