Perham swimmers sixth at Rapids Invite

Perham-The Perham Yellowjacket swimming and diving team continued an extended road trip with the Rapids Invite in Grand Rapids, Minn., on Oct. 8.

The Yellowjackets finished sixth out of eight teams against a strong field of contenders.

The host Grand Rapids Thunderhawks finished first overall. The Thunderhawks recorded 469 points on their way to the title. The Thunderhawks have been moved into Section 8A this year; this meet gave the Yellowjackets a chance to see the Thunderhawk team for the first time this year.

International Falls followed in second place with 374 points. Two Harbors finished third with 355 points, while Duluth Denfeld was fourth with 313 points. Thief River Falls rounded out the top five with 241 points.

Perham was sixth with 218 points, followed by Proctor/Hermantown and Chisholm.

Dena Fischer led the way for the Yellowjackets in the diving competition. Fischer finished fourth overall, while Kovar was sixth.

Megan Tellinghuisen earned a fifth place finish for Perham in the 500 freestyle, while Anna Dale took fifth in the 50 freestyle.

The 200 freestyle relay team of Dale, Tellinghuisen, Morgan Hanson and Lacy Richter finished in fourth place overall.
