Perham takes dual meet from Staples-Motley

Staples-The Perham Yellowjacket swimming and diving team continued its busy stretch of meets, wrapping up a three meet stretch in five days with a 104-77 victory over the Staples-Motley Cardinals in Staples on Oct. 12.

Staples-The Perham Yellowjacket swimming and diving team continued its busy stretch of meets, wrapping up a three meet stretch in five days with a 104-77 victory over the Staples-Motley Cardinals in Staples on Oct. 12.

The Yellowjackets continue to set themselves up for the Section 8A meet in Warroad, Minn.

The Yellowjackets qualified multiple swimmers again for the meet. Dixie Carow earned a spot in the 50 freestyle, while Morgan Hanson qualified for Perham in the 500 freestyle event. Megan Tellinghuisen qualified in the backstroke as well.

The Yellowjackets claimed the top three spots in the diving competition against Staples-Motley. Dena Fischer finished first overall with 199.05 points, while Anni Kovar came in second with 177.70 points. She was followed by Maddie Rue in third place with 165.10 points.

Anna Dale finished first in multiple events for the Yellowjackets. She was first in the 200 individual medley. She ended with a time of 2:35.13 for Perham.


Dale led a duo of Yellowjackets to the front in the 100 freestyle as well. Dale finished with a time of 59.61 for first place, while Lacy Richter was second. Richter finished with a time of 1:02.92.

Megan Tellinghuisen earned the top time in the 50 freestyle for Perham. Tellinghuisen finished with a time of 27.66, more than a second better than the second place finisher.

Maggie Ingebrand out-touched Staples-Motley’s Lili Schneider at the finish for a victory in the 100 breaststroke. Ingebrand finished the event with a time of 1:21.57 for first place.

Morgan Hanson earned a first place finish as well for the Yellowjackets. She had a finishing time of 6:36.18 in the 500 freestyle. Annika Werner followed in second place. She had a time of 6:51.86.

The Yellowjacket 200 freestyle relay team came in first with a time of 1:56.69. Team members consisted of Dale, Anna Carlson, Hanson and Richter.

The Yellowjacket 400 freestyle relay team closed out the meet with a win as well. The team of Dale, Hanson, Tellinghuisen and Richter finished with a time of 4:16.66.

The Yellowjackets will have some time to rest before their next competition. The Yellowjackets compete next at Morris Area at Minnewaska High School on Thursday, Oct. 22.
