Perham tennis edges Moorhead, Bemidji

The Perham boys tennis team continued its strong start to the season, securing a sweep over Bemidji and Moorhead in Moorhead on April 20.

The Yellowjackets have won three straight dual matches, while finishing third in their only tournament in Park Rapids.

“I thought all 19 of our players played and performed really well,” Perham head coach Jameson Miller said. “They should all be proud.”

It was a strong day for singles players Ben Winkels, Drew Birkeland and Josh Peterson. The trio did not drop a match, helping Perham take three of four singles points in their wins over Moorhead and Bemidji. Winkels defeated Griffin Krabbenhoft, 6-2, 6-1, and Ben Hess, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.

Drew Birkeland knocked off Hagar Khalid, 7-5, 5-7, 10-4, while defeating Koldin Michalicek, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.

Josh Peterson earned a pair of wins at No. 4 singles. He defeated Levi Nelson, 6-3, 6-1 and Wyatt Harrom, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).

The doubles duo of Noah Christenson and Aaron Solberg picked up a pair of wins as well at No. 2 doubles. They defeated Dash Hilgers and Ives Hilgers, 6-3, 6-1 and knocked off Adam Laakso and James Palmer in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4.

The Yellowjackets put their perfect 3-0 mark on the line on April 21 when they host the Detroit Lakes Lakers at the Perham Tennis Courts, starting at 4:30 p.m.
