Perham tennis returns to the win column

The Perham boys tennis team found its winning touch with a 6-1 victory over Fergus Falls on May 18 in Fergus Falls. It snapped a brief two match losing skid and comes right before the Section 8A playoffs, which begin on Monday, May 22.

The Yellowjackets dropped just one match on their way to the convincing win. The Yellowjackets will be the No. 3 seed, opening against Minnewaska Area.

The Yellowjackets earned three singles wins, while taking three of four singles matches on their way to the win.

Perham’s Gunnar Anderson and Ryan Murphy rallied from being down three games in each set, before rallying for straight set victories. They defeated the duo of Matt Monke and Tyler Hobbs, 7-5, 7-5.

Aaron Solberg and Noah Christenson defeated Justin Mortenson and Joe Connelly in straight sets at No. 2 doubles. Solberg and Christenson won the first set, 7-5, before controlling the second set, 6-0.

Wyatt Guck and Anthony Reese rolled at No. 3 doubles over Maveric Kalenburg and Colton Partain, 6-2, 6-1, earning the doubles sweep.

The lone win for Fergus Falls came at No. 1 singles when Noah Tarczon defeated Ben Winkels in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.

Perham’s Drew Birkeland rolled in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, over Isaac Ahlgren at No. 2 singles. Perham’s Josh Peterson was victorious in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, against Fergus Falls’ Caleb Danielson at No. 3 singles.

Nathan Kawlewski stepped in at No. 4 for the Yellowjackets. He filled in with a 6-1, 6-2 straight set victory over Connor Ackerson.

The Yellowjackets finished the regular season with a 10-2 mark overall.
