PERHAM - The Perham boys basketball team played their last home game of the season and defeated the Frazee Hornets for the third time in a 61-27 victory to open the Section 8AA Subsection playoffs.
Hunter Salathe scored 17 points to lead all scorers. Josh Nordick scored 14; Eli Beachy added 10.
Perham displayed the defensive stand that has propelled the Yellowjackets to two straight state tournaments. Perham led Frazee at the half 36-14 and clamped down in the second half allowing the Hornets only 13 more points.
Bracket play now moves to Concordia College - Moorhead and Perham will take on No. 8-2A Pelican Rapids in the third meeting of those two teams. Both teams won on their home floor.
Ryan Bruggeman, who missed considerable time down the stretch with a high ankle sprain, has returned to the Vikings’ lineup and he scored a game-high 24 points to lead Pelican Rapids to a 70-50 victory over Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton Thursday. Perham and Pelican Rapids will play the second game of the Subsection semifinals at 7:45 p.m. on Saturday.

According to a report by Viking's head coach Doug Bruggeman on craigolsonsports.com , the injury bug has hit the Vikings again. Tucker Forsgren left Thursday's game with an apparent knee injury early in the second half. He did not return. His absence will hamper Pelican Rapids' chances against Perham and Ryan Bruggeman is playing at less than 100 percent.
Barnesville and No. 2-2A Hawley will play in the first game at 6 p.m.
Barnesville defeated Breckenridge 77-54 behind 23 points each from the Trojan duo of Michael Strand and Austin Martz.
Hawley led Wadena-Deer Creek by a whopping halftime score of 57-9 in their 86-23 victory over the Wolverines. Devon Pekas led all scorers with 26 points.
The Subsection matchups will feature the top four finishers in the Heart O’ Lakes Conference.
In the North half of the bracket, top-seeded Crosby-Ironton had a first round bye and will face Park Rapids.
The Panthers defeated Pequot Lakes 60-57 to advance.
Warroad and Crookston are in the other semifinal. Crookston defeated Bagley 70-62. Warroad got by Roseau 51-37. Those semifinals will be played at Bemidji State University Saturday and 1 p.m. and 2:45 p.m.
