ROCHESTER – The future of Perham wrestling brought back two state championships and a multitude of other medals from their weekend at the annual Northern Youth Wrestling Tournament held at the Rochester Mayo Civic Center on March 30- April 2.
Every year, the tournament brings together wrestlers of all ages from different parts of Minnesota to grapple with the best the state has to offer. Each wrestler must qualify at the district and regional levels before being invited to the state tournament. For the individuals that didn’t qualify at the district or regional level, they have an invite portion that wrestlers can compete in.
Perham was well represented as Issac Adams (125) and Tiegan Detloff (130) were both crowned state champions in the seventh/eighth grade division. Adams and Detloff competed at the varsity level for the Perham High School wrestling team this year.
The younger members of the team finished as top place-winners in the tournament. The results from the younger divisions are as followed:
- Jacob Marthaler wrestled in the kindergarten 40-pound weight class with a 1-2 record at the state tournament.
- Everett Palubicki wrestled in the kindergarten 105-pound weight class and placed second at state.
- McCoy Nagel wrestled in the first and second-grade 80-pound weight class and placed fourth at state.
- Noah Reyes wrestled in the first and second-grade 130-pound weight class and placed fifth at state.
- Jax Palubicki wrestled in the first and second-grade 65-pound invite class and placed first.
- Cooper Adams wrestled in the third and fourth-grade 95-pound invite class and suffered two close losses.
- Jaxon Pazdernik wrestled in the fifth and sixth-grade 84-pound invite class and placed fifth.
