Crookston-A four-goal second period gave Detroit Lakes a 6-3 victory at Crookston in a Section 8A matchup Tuesday night.
The win keeps the Lakers in contention for a top three seed come playoff time.
DL’s Tyler Berby and Crookston’s Bobby Tiedemann traded first period goals in an 18-minutes stretch of both teams forcing play defensively to the outside. Shots were 8-6 Lakers.
The teams traded goals early in the second period. Jon Richards scored his 13th of the season unassisted two minutes in. Harrison Bjorgo answered for the Pirates at 7:47 to knot the score at two.
Tyler Berby’s second of the game and fifth of the year broke the tie less than a minute later. Ryan DeConcini picked up the game-winner at 8:50 assisted by Richards and Jack DeConcini took a feed from Joe Solberg for a 5-2 Laker lead heading to the second intermission.

Richards capped the Laker stretch of four unanswered goals three minutes into the third.
Tiedemann scored his second goal of the game for the Pirates for the 6-3 final.
MacKenzie Steele stopped 23 shots for his fifth win.
The Pirates started Ian Johnson, who gave up five goals on 15 shots. Johnson was coming off a big 4-3 overtime win at Warroad Saturday, but was pulled at 8:10 of the second period. Crookston’s regular starter Adam Huglen stopped 10 of 11 Laker shots.
The Lakers are 3-2 against Section 8A opponents and are currently fifth in the standings based on QRF rank. Crookston falls to 7-8-1 overall and 4-4 in section play - one spot behind DL in the standings.
Detroit Lakes (8-4-2) takes another northern road trip Friday and Saturday to face International Falls and Fort Frances.
Saturday is Hockey day in Minnesota. The Lakers will be just across the border in Ontario.
