MOORHEAD – The Perham baseball team ended its regular season with three straight wins to lock up the top seed in the Section 8-2A North bracket and a Heart O’Lakes Conference championship.
The Yellowjackets finished the regular season with a 19-1 record after taking down Class 4A’s Moorhead 10-4 on the road.
Logan Pulju got the scoring started with a two-round double in the top of the first inning. Moorhead would take a 3-2 lead before the Yellowjackets exploded for five runs in the fifth inning.
Blaiz Schmidt tied the game with a single before Evan Kovash gave Perham a 4-3 lead with a base hit. Schmidt scored on a wild pitch before Austin Aanenson made it 6-3 with an RBI single. Chas Melvin made it a four-run game with a sacrifice fly to cap off a big frame.
Gamble Bye drew a bases-loaded walk in the top of the sixth before Rian Solberg drove in a run with a single in the seventh inning. Schmidt knocked in another run with a sacrifice fly in the seventh to secure a 19-win regular season for Perham.

Chas Melvin threw five strong innings. He allowed four earned runs on six hits and struck out three batters. Schmidt came in relief, allowing two hits in two innings with a strikeout.
Perham scored 31 runs in three games last week. Before the 1-4 win on the road in Moorhead, the Yellowjackets swept their final home doubleheader of the regular season. After beating Fergus Falls 11-4, Perham shut out Park Rapids 10-0.
Germolus threw six shutout innings and allowed just six hits in Perham’s mercy-rule win. He struck out eight batters on 73 pitches. At the plate, Solberg went 2-for-3 with a home run and five RBIs. Austin Aanenson also had three hits, while Luis Briseno had two.
Perham went deep three times against Fergus Falls in game one of the doubleheader.
Logan Pulju went 3-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and a home run. He tallied four RBIs on his monster day. Ben Shumansky and Solberg also cleared the fence.
Aanenson and Pulju combined for seven innings on the mound, allowing one earned run. They gave up four hits, four walks and struck out six batters.
Perham is hosting eighth-seeded Barnesville on Tuesday night in the first round of the Section 8-2A tournament. If the top-seeded Yellowjackets win, they will advance to the double-elimination portion of the tournament.
The second day of the Section 8-2A tournament is on June 2. Perham is hosting the neutral site South sub-section bracket. The section championship game will be played in Park Rapids on June 9.
