PERHAM – The Perham boys basketball team is set for a rematch with Sauk Centre for the GRAND8 Holiday Classic championship after handling Paynesville on Tuesday night.
The Yellowjackets (5-0) picked up their fifth win of the season by a margin of 30 or more points in a 78-48 victory over the Bulldogs (4-2). Micah Thompson led all scorers with 23 points. Soren Anderson wasn’t far behind with 20.
Perham shot 57.1% from the fields on 32-of-56 attempts. The Yellowjackets also made 7-of-19 three-point attempts. Thompson had a team-high eight rebounds. Blaiz Schmidt came off the bench to collect a team-high five assists. Ashton Detloff picked up nine points in the second half.
Perham will take on undefeated Sauk Centre (4-0) at 3:15 at The Hive on Wednesday. The Mainstreeters beat Border West 78-61 on Tuesday.
Perham and Sauk Centre both landed in the top 20 of the latest Minnesota Basketball News polls. The Yellowjackets sit at No. 8, while the Mainstreeters are No. 13.
